Our mobile phones are very personal to us and for many of us, something we couldn’t do without. The average person looks at their mobile phone some 150 times a day. As mobile phones have proliferated, we have become obsessed with text messaging, or SMS messaging. I can tell you, with my two kids, they would much rather send an SMS message than call………..me, or their friends. Text messages are read on average within 5 seconds, where emails can often sit for hours. Advertising via SMS messaging is a relatively new arena to marketing. I don’t know how you feel about it, but personally, even as a marketer, I consider an advertising message sent to me via SMS a major breach of privacy and an intrusion, no different than a telemarketer’s phone call during dinner back in the day.
