There has been a lot of discussion as to whether Facebook ads work or not. There was a well publicized story back in May before Facebook went public when General Motors pulled all their Facebooks ads. Our experience, while considerably smaller on Facebook has been positive. We know of no other network you can target so finitely. Let’s take the example of Sara Palin and her eyewear. Back in 2008 when she was selected as the Vice President nominee by John McCain for the Republicans, she created a new and sizable demand for the Kawasaki eyeglasses she wore at the time. Irregardless of your politics any eye care professional could have sold countless pairs of those frames if they could get their hands on them. We worked with optical shops that happen to carry them. If they would have advertised the frames in the newspaper, they would have upset as many customers as they might have enticed to purchase the frames with left leaning customers thinking the stores were conservative. The reactions would have been the same if she had been a Democrat instead of a Republican of course by the other side. Imagine being able to advertise those frames just to those who “LIKED” Sara Palin or John McCain, or who identified themselves to be Republican. No liberal or democrat would be targeted by the ad and therefore any possible animosity would have been almost entirely eliminated. Advertising on Facebook allows for just this sort of targeting. The folks at WordStream have come out with this infographic on their experiences with Facebook advertising, grading it against Google. What have been your experiences with both?
